Blog tour: Game Changer by Collette West

Game Changer
By: Collette West
Released July 25th, 2014

Young, rich, and unaware of how seriously hot he is, Brooks Davison is tearing it up as the latest shortstop for the New York Kings, despite his tendency to blush whenever girls scream his name.

When a health scare forces his best friend, Kyle Roberts, off the team, no one can stomach the thought of replacing him, especially so close to the playoffs.

Until Kyle's sister, Sasha, steps in, convincing management to let her take his place. The idea of signing the first female player in Major League history proves too tempting for the Kings to resist.

Nevertheless, Brooks doesn't want any part of it. Sasha is Kyle's little sister, not some sideshow.

Yet when Kyle takes a turn for the worse, Brooks promises to do everything in his power to help Sasha win a championship for him. Because there's no way he's letting either of them down. Not now, not ever.

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.
Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at
She is the author of NIGHT GAMES and GAME CHANGER.

Brooks looks so good braced against the partition, his sky-blue tie matching the color of his eyes. I didn't get to fully admire him this morning all spruced up to comply with the Kings’ dress code, although he’s not as clean-shaven as when he started the day. Then, I was too distracted, but now, I can't take my eyes off him. He extends his hand. "Why don't you come out and we put this night behind us? What do you say?" He gives me that crinkled grin I love, his drawl coming out extra thick when he's tired. "You're not used to playin’. You're gonna be sore tomorrow. The best thing you can do is go back to the hotel, order an ice cream sundae from room service, and soak in the tub. You'll feel better in the mornin’. I promise." "And if I don't?" I take his hand, relishing the warmth of his touch, his big, strong fingers encircling mine. "Oh, I think you will. The Queen of Diamonds is roundin’ up the troops. A whole contingent of fans from New York is on its way here. They intend to even the playing field by drowning out the opposition. They've already purchased about five thousand tickets, whatever was available." Brooks removes my cap, sliding it over my ponytail, before running his thumb beneath my eyes to dry my tears. "Did you think any self- respectin’ Kings fan would stand back and let them get away with doing that to Kyle Roberts’s little sister? I don't think so. The whole country's up in arms at the way they treated you tonight. So don't think you're all alone. You’ve got a lot of people standin’ behind you." "Really?" I ask, hardly daring to believe that anyone would stand up for me after being attacked by that mob. Brooks cranks some paper towel out of the dispenser, wets it, and starts blotting my face, cooling my enflamed cheeks. "Really," he states, the firmness of his conviction readily apparent. He rummages through the bag I left on the floor, pulling out my brush. His fingers unwind my ponytail holder, and my hair falls around my shoulders. His fingers massage my scalp, draining the tension out of my body, before he takes his time brushing out the tangles. It feels so good to be taken care of like this, being pampered by him after the night I had.

This was my first baseball romance, but it definitely won’t be my last. As a matter of fact, I’m looking forward to reading the first book in the series and can’t wait for the next one to be released.
Living in a country where the one national sport is soccer, I’ll admit I had a little trouble following some parts when it got a little too technical for my vocabulary and my knowledge of the sport, but I enjoyed the story all the same – and now I’m thinking about getting a subscription to watch all the Major League games. I think I’ve fallen in love with baseball… and with baseball players. LOL
Game Changer is an unusual story, because I don’t know if in real life something like this could really happen. But this is what made it so interesting!
I loved the heroine, Sasha Roberts, and the way she decided to do something nobody else in the history of baseball had done, just to help her sick, dying brother: be the first woman to play in a Major League male team. I was rooting for her throughout the story and cheered for her. She’s such a strong woman, but at the same time she has her weak moments when she thinks she’s going to fail.
That’s when Brooks steps in.
Aw, Brooks. I love him! He’s so cute, sexy, strong and hopelessly in love with Sasha, even though her brother Kyle, and Brooks' best friend, doesn’t want him anywhere near his sister. So even though Brooks is head-over-heels, he does the honourable thing and gives Kyle his word that he won’t touch her. Turns out, this is the hardest promise he’s ever made, especially after Sasha joins the team. At times I wanted to hug him – he was so sweet and the perfect book boyfriend.
There are some great side characters and I can’t wait to read Chase’s story (book one). He sounds like a cool character.
There’s a lot happening throughout the book and up until the last page you can’t be sure if Kyle will live or if Sasha and Brooks will finally be together. The author definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
I particularly enjoyed the choice of the author to add bonus scenes at the end, which tell the reader how Sasha and Brooks fell in love – since the book starts afterwards. I think if she’d added the scenes to the book as first chapters or prologue, it wouldn’t have had the same effect. I think this was a great choice because by the time you’ve reached those bonus scenes, you’re totally involved in Sasha and Brooks’ story and you really want to know what happened in Jamaica (that’s where they fell in love). I hope in the next books in the series we will get to read more about Sasha and Brooks, even just as side characters. I’m not ready to let go of them! And I would love to read Kyle’s story too, even though the author might have to resort to flashbacks about how he met his wife, since by the time Game Changer starts, Kyle’s already married. (Collette, have I given you an idea for another book? *winks winks*)
I would recommend this book to lovers of sports romance, clean romance and baseball fans. But don’t worry: even if you don’t know much about baseball, you’ll enjoy this book all the same because the chemistry between Sasha and Brooks will make up for your lack of knowledge. :)
