Blog tour: His Texas Forever Family by Amy Woods

His Texas Forever Family
By: Amy Woods
Released August 19th, 2014

Paige Graham only has room for one man in her life—her son, Owen. The little boy hasn’t spoken since his father died, but things change when he meets his new art teacher, Liam Campbell. Paige can’t help marveling at the progress Owen makes while working with his instructor—and Mr. Campbell isn’t exactly hard on the eyes, either!

New to Peach Leaf, Texas, Liam is captivated by his beautiful boss—who is none other than Paige! He can’t risk his job or his future by falling for his supervisor, but there is just something about her he can’t resist. Thanks to Liam’s lessons, Owen is on the road to recovery. Now if only Liam can show Paige that the best way to heal her heart is to open herself to love again….”

Although she’s wanted to be a writer since learning to read, Amy Woods took the scenic route to her job as an author. She’s been a bookkeeper, a high school English teacher, a claims specialist, and a call-center worker, but now that she’s tried making up stories for a living, she’s never giving it up. She grew up in Austin, Texas and still lives there with her wonderfully goofy, supportive husband and a very spoiled rescue dog.

This book is the very epitome of sweet romance. There’s no angst, no sex scenes or colorful language, but it will keep you turning page after page all the same. Feelings play the biggest part in the book and by the time you reach the last page you will be smiling alone, feeling truly content. I can’t really express how much I enjoyed reading this story. It’s what I would define “a feel-good story”, the perfect relaxing, heart-warming read you will enjoy when you feel like losing yourself in a sweet story.
The characters are adorable, especially little Owen. Paige, the heroine, is a woman who’s gone through a lot in the last six months, after her husband died while on duty as a firefighter and her son, Owen, stopped talking to anyone else but her. She’s working hard as an assistant principal in the elementary school of her small town in Texas to provide the best care for her son, and the last thing she needs right now is a man.
Enters Liam Campbell, the new art teacher who’s also working hard to become an art therapist to help little kids like Owen get over their fears, trouble or disability through art. Liam is also recovering from a broken heart, after his wife left him because he wanted a family and she didn’t, and the last thing he expects is to fall for someone else – someone who, as it turns out, is actually his boss.
Little by little, Liam and Paige get closer, thanks to the way he’s helping Owen get over his problem, but while Liam is sure of what he wants (and whom he wants), Paige fights the attraction because she doesn’t want to put her job (and the well-being of her son) in jeopardy. The more she tries to push Liam away, the deeper she falls in love with him.
Can there be a happy ending for this adorable couple or are they doomed to be apart?
The small town setting where everyone knows everything is perfect; I feel this story wouldn’t have felt the same, had it taken place in a big city.
Like I said, feelings play an important part in this story so there are lots of internal monologues but quite surprisingly they aren’t annoying in the least. Sometimes, with other books, I found that long internal monologues distracted me from the story and they got boring after a while, making me want to skip ahead. In this story, however, I never felt the need to skip ahead. Yes, I wanted to know what would happen next, but I also enjoyed being inside the characters’ heads and feeling the way they were feeling.
To summarize my review in one sentence, all I can say is: Buy this book and lose yourself in a lovely, heart-warming story.
