Blog tour: Irresistibly Yours by Lauren Layne

Oxford #1
Lauren Layne
Releasing Oct 6th, 2015

Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

Another hit by author Lauren Layne. Entertaining, romantic and a little steamy at times, Irresistibly Yours surprised me.

I haven’t read all the books in the Stiletto series (yet) and I’d met the whole Stiletto/Oxford team for the first time in the last book in the series (The Trouble With Love – read my review). That is where I first met Cole, and to be completely honest, I didn’t really think much of him. I’m not a fan of womanizers and players, and Cole was described as exactly that kind of man in that book. Even so, when I saw that the author had a new series in the making, I decided to give it a try. I’m quite happy I did, because I truly enjoyed this book and I completely changed my opinion of Cole.

Okay, he’s not boyfriend material at first, but seeing the big heart underneath the sexy, tailored suit was enough to make me change my mind about him. He’s freaking adorable!

Now, Penelope. I think she’s one of the few female characters I wished were real so we could be best friends. She’s hilarious, and her girl-next-door looks and attitude helped to make her even more real and relatable. From the moment she enters the story, I was rooting for her happily-ever-after, cheering her on and keeping my fingers crossed for her.

I enjoyed Cole and Penelope’s banter tremendously. I think this is absolutely the best thing about this book: the way they’re so at ease with each other from the very beginning. Sure, the romantic part is also fantastic, and the couple of detailed sex scenes are hot, but the parts I enjoyed the most were those of their easy-going banter and when they hung out together, eating pizza and watching baseball.
I loved the interactions between Cole and his brother Bobby, as well as Penelope’s. There was a new side of Cole coming through and it was one more thing that brought him a little higher in my chart of book boyfriends.

My one complaint, even though is just a small one, was the way things were resolved at the end. I can’t say much or I’ll spoil it all for the readers, but I found it was a little too easy. I thought, seeing how things had drastically changed all of a sudden, that it would take a little bit more effort on Cole’s side to get his HEA with Penelope. I get it she’s always been the understanding and easy-going heroine throughout the book, but I would’ve loved to see Cole work a little bit more for it.

Anyway, apart from this personal preference of mine, I would definitely recommend you pick up a copy of this book. It’s the perfect weekend read, sprawled on the couch in your sweatpants and baggie t-shirt, with a bag of popcorn and a can of soda (or beer, if you prefer).

If you’ve read the previous books of the sister series, Stiletto, this is a must read, but it definitely works well as a standalone. Fans of Lauren Layne will not be disappointed by this new series.
I’m looking forward to Lincoln’s book, now!
